Join us in 2017

Looking to play hockey in Perth, Western Australia? Then look no further than the best in the west and get in touch with Fremantle Hockey Club for the 2017 season.  We are actively seeking new members and welcome your enquiry to join us, whatever your circumstance and hockey history we’re sure that you’ll find it just like home at FHC.

Formed in 1933 we are one of the oldest clubs in the state and our strong family links boast 4th generation playing members descended from our founding fathers.  We offer hockey for all ages and abilities, from social to state and international level, so there really is a place for everyone at the Magpies.  Our administration is tightly managed by our professionally run committees, who handle the smooth running of our club and ensure we retain our solid financial footing.

Our current clubrooms are based at Stevens Reserve in Fremantle, where we enjoy probably the finest grass hockey fields in the state (we are particularly keen on attracting new grass members in 2017), whilst our turf based teams currently train and play at various stadia throughout the metro area, predominantly at Perth Hockey Stadium.  We are forging ahead with our plans for our very own turf facility to ensure our long term viability and aim to have this up and running for the 2018 season.

Freo players are a special breed, we are reknowned for our passion for both our club and the game and when we’re not playing you’ll likely find us supporting our clubmates around the grounds or volunteering at the club.  You’ll find us pretty welcoming too and we’ll go out of our way to help you settle in at your new club.  You’ll be singing our famous club song before you know it!

Seniors (Men & Women)

In 2017 our men’s 1′s will once again be battling it out in one of the world’s strongest club competitions, the Melville Toyota League, ably supported by our premier 2′s and premier 3′s development squad.  Our women’s 1′s also make a return to MTL after a stellar season in 2016 with a minor premiership and premiership win in Promotion 1 grade, whilst also earning our return to the top league by finishing top in the promotion/relegation play off table.

We have a number of teams playing in the provisional (turf) and metropolitan (grass) grades for both men and women.  Grass games are regularly scheduled on a Saturday afternoon (2pm/3.30pm), whilst turf competition fixturing can see start times from 7pm-8.30pm Fridays; 11.30am-8.30pm Saturdays; 11am-7pm Sundays.  Pre-season training for our top grade teams gets underway in January 2017; provisional grades tend to get underway in mid February with the season for all teams starting in late March/early April.

Masters (Men & Women)

We have men’s Masters teams playing in the Saturday afternoon 40′s & 50′s and hopefully 60’s age groups whilst we also run a Monday night men’s 40′s team (2016 Premiers) and three women’s 35′s midweek teams.  All are a good balance of vintage hockey skills and social activity.

Juniors

Whether your child is new to hockey or already playing at state level, there is a place for them in the FHC family.  We run teams throughout the age ranges from grads to U18′s and operate the Hook in2 Hockey programme.  With notable representation in regional & state squads we consistently punch above our weight in the representative arena and can provide strong and proven pathways to help your junior hockey lover to achieve their goals within the game.  Registration day will be held on Saturday 17th February 2017.

We’re Back!

Fremantle Hockey Club’s Women’s 1’s team have confirmed their promotion back to the Melville Toyota League for the 2017 season.  After claiming the minor premiership, the Magpies have finished top of the group in the promotion/relegation games.

A shock 6-1 defeat to YMCC in the opening play off match did not get us off to the best start, but back to back 2-1 victories over Suburban Lions and Hale has seen us earn a place back in the Premier 1 grade of WA Hockey after a 2 season absence.

After 3 games in a week the girls now have a break of 8 days, before  they go for the treble in the Promotion 1 Grand Final against either Hale or Southern River.  The game gets underway on Saturday 24th September, 11.30am at Perth Hockey Stadium.
